FAQ
How many pictures will we receive?
This depends on the type and length of the session.
Most portrait sessions will yield about 30 finalized images per hour of shooting. However, if there are outfit changes, or multiple locations, this can cut into actual shooting time.
Additionally, some circumstances will result in more or less deliverable photos. For example, sessions with babies or young children, often require lots of shots, but there may only be a few of them where everyone is in focus or in frame.
Part of what you are purchasing when hiring me is the expertise and artistic eye to find the images that best capture the memories and moments that you will cherish forever. These images may not always be perfect, but I leave them in because they tell a story. Others are just super blurry or someone has made an unflattering facial expression, so I will take those out of the mix.
What’s the best time of day to have an outdoor session?
The exact time may vary a bit depending on the season, but generally speaking, the best light is early in the morning and about an hour or two before sunset. Some people really love the "golden hour" which is about 30-45 minutes before sunset when the sun is just above the horizon and gives off a stunning glow.
Also, you will get different results on a cloudy day versus a very sunny day. Check the weather a few days before your shoot and be prepared to pivot to a different time frame.
As a general rule of thumb, it's best to avoid anytime between about 11 am to 3 pm as the sun will be at it's brightest and harshest..... unless you can find a really shady area.
Please let me know if there is a particular look you are going for so we can work together to choose a location and time for your shoot.
How should we dress for our session?
Generally speaking, you should where what you feel most comfortable in (ok, aside from your pajamas). First decide what the photos will be used for, and what will bring out your personality. If you never dress formally, you won't be comfortable in a ball gown and high heels or a tuxedo, but perhaps you can find something in between.
I will always advise that even holiday photos or graduation pictures can look great in casual wear, as long as that is what you feel comfortable in.
Whether or not you feel comfortable will show on your face, so don't wear anything too tight or too loose, too colorful, or too fancy. Try on everything several days before your shoot so you can determine how you feel in it.

I don’t feel very confident in front of the camera, is that ok?
That is absolutely ok! It is my job to make you feel comfortable. I prefer to take mostly candid shots, especially when we first start shooting so you can relax and pretend I'm not there. Otherwise, I will direct you on adjusting your head and/or body so we can get the most flattering angles.
